The great Sahara Desert stretches across the continent of Africa, from Egypt to Morocco. While it’s now the hottest place on Earth, it wasn’t always a desolate wasteland. Scientists recently unearthed fossils of sea creatures, freshwater shells buried in sand and ancient settlements with human remains. Here was evidence of how Earth’s evolving climate had altered the course of human history.
