Engineering Giants
How does an oil platform work? What keeps a Boeing 747 up in the air? How big is the engine of a cross channel ferry? Engineering Giants lets us see these monster machines like never before. With access to some of the most fascinating demolition jobs on the planet, we’ll get under the skin some of the largest things humanity has ever created and show you how they really work. Each episode will tell the story of a single large machine that is being decommissioned and dismantled from the moment it’s taken out of use and taken apart piece by piece to the process of recycling and reusing the component parts. The presenters will engage in the human stories behind each engineering marvel and meet the people who have worked–and possibly even lived–in each of these colossal machines. The same people who were once responsible for the design and build of each machine, who have a personal, professional, and emotional link to them, will now get to see them in a way they haven’t seen them before. Archive footage illustrating the history and back story of each machine will also be presented.
