This journey begins in the city of Belo Horizonte, another city hosting the World Cup this year. There is a fine mixture of old and new buildings and an area of the city known as Pampulha, which boasts a wealth of early 1960s architecture. From there, we head south to a very picturesque sculpture gallery built around a landscaped garden. Further south is a whole series of old colonial mining towns now fully protected, including a steam train in one of them, which takes passengers on a scenic tour of the surrounding area. Our final stop is one of the largest churches in the world, which can hold a staggering 45,000 worshippers – The Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida.
