Revolution in Colour tells the story of Ireland’s struggle for independence during the early decades of the 20th Century. It shows for the first time the Ireland of the period, not in black and white, but in color. The newsreel, sourced primarily from the British Pathé archive with additional footage from the British Film Institute and the Irish Film Archive, has been painstakingly restored, colorized, and delivered in High Definition. The remarkable collection of photographs sourced from private and state institutions also underwent the colorization process. The end result creates a powerful emotional connection with the people, the personalities, and the past. It brings Irish history alive.
Written by the distinguished historian Professor Eunan O’Halpin, this two-part series examines the years leading up to the British general election of 1918. The gradual radicalization of nationalists and unionists saw the island’s political landscape forever transformed. The old political order would be gradually overturned, and its people divided with devastating consequences.
